Pick the example that matches your relationship with your employer, then adjust the names, the date and anything that does not sound like you.
A good two weeks notice letter does four things: it says you are resigning, gives your last day, thanks the employer and offers to help with the handover. Everything else is optional. The five examples below use the same building blocks in different tones. They are generated by the same engine as our two weeks notice letter generator, so you can open that page and produce your own version with your name and date filled in.
Example 1: standard
The default for most jobs. Neutral, polite, and short enough to read in a minute.

What every example has in common
- A clear statement. The first sentence says that you are resigning and from which role.
- A specific last day. A date, not “in two weeks”.
- No complaints. A resignation letter is a record, not a place to argue.
- An offer to help. It does not need to promise more than you can deliver.
How to adapt an example
Replace the placeholders, then read it aloud. If a sentence sounds like something you would never say, change it. If your contract asks for notice in a specific form, such as a letter addressed to HR, follow that wording first. For a few common situations, there are dedicated versions: retail jobs, remote jobs, a message by text or Slack, a letter addressed to HR and an email with subject lines.
Before you hand it in
Count your notice period with the two weeks notice calculator, so the date in the letter is the one you mean. Tell your manager before the letter lands. And if you are not sure how that conversation should go, read what to say when you quit.
Not legal advice. This page is general information. Notice rules, final-pay deadlines and benefits differ by country, state and employer, and your contract can change the answer. Check your own paperwork, or ask a qualified employment professional if a lot is at stake.
